The latest exhibition at ETERNO Gallery brings a new body of work by American artist and designer 0009 (Chris Maestas), titled “Wrong Side of the Fence”. The show introduces around twenty digital works that explore themes of division, identity and personal transition through layered visual compositions.
Maestas’ practice sits between contemporary art, design and street-influenced visual culture. His imagery often combines graphic elements, industrial textures and synthetic surfaces, building compositions that can read almost like landscapes from afar. Up close, however, the works reveal complex structures assembled through a mix of digital processes, layered materials and AI-driven experimentation.
The exhibition reflects the artist’s broader background, shaped by influences from skate and graffiti culture, graphic design and the visual language of the 1990s while moving toward a more digital and post-photographic approach.
In Wrong Side of the Fence, these references become tools to reflect on boundaries and transformation, suggesting that the “fence” is not just a physical barrier but a metaphor for shifting identities and perspectives in contemporary life.
Rather than presenting a linear narrative, the exhibition offers a series of visual situations where surface, texture and colour interact to create tension between distance and detail. The result is a body of work that feels both graphic and contemplative — rooted in urban visual culture but clearly positioned within a contemporary gallery context.
