on

Last weekend, Lisbon was buzzing with creativity as the 2024 Festival Iminente took over the beautiful gardens of the Museu de Lisboa — Palácio Pimenta. The theme, “Participação” (Participation in EN), wasn’t just a word—it was a way of life for this unforgettable event. The festival brought together music, visual arts, dance, and conversations, all with free entry, and filled the city with vibrant energy.

With a multidisciplinary lineup, Iminente Takeover featured twenty performances, blending established artists and fresh new talents across two stages. The performances seamlessly flowed throughout the weekend, keeping the crowd engaged and the atmosphere electric.

A Vibrant Lineup of Music and Performance

The weekend’s music lineup was a thrilling mix of established acts and rising stars. With two stages, the performances featured Sam the Kid (DJ Set) & DJ Big, Chelas é o Sítio, and legendary rap pioneers Dealema. Dance beats filled the air with Afrokillerz, Shaka Lion, Yung Singh, and DJ Marfox bringing a high-energy electronic sound to the mix. Rising national stars like Silly, George Silver, Puçanga, and Violeta Azevedo left their mark, making this an unforgettable gathering of genres ranging from rap and afro-house to experimental and hardcore.

Art, Community, and Collaboration at Its Core

The festival also stood out for its deep connection to Lisbon’s neighborhoods. This year, it focused on bringing the marginalized voices from the city’s outskirts into the spotlight. Through the 4th Edition of the Bairros Program, creative workshops held over the past four months culminated in breathtaking performances and exhibitions—transforming the Museu do Lisboa into a melting pot of cultural expression. Artistic talents like João Fortuna, Kiam, and Sepher collaborated with communities, blurring the lines between art and social commentary.

Interactive Visual Art and Immersive Installations

The visual art lineup was nothing short of spectacular. Maotik, Sara Sadik, and Lauren Moffatt presented interactive works that encouraged the audience to engage directly with the art. Meanwhile, multidisciplinary projects like the residency program brought together music, performance, and visual arts, with artists like Batida and Xullaji showcasing bold installations that reflected the theme of participation.

A Place for Conversation and Reflection

In addition to the artistic expression, Iminente Takeover also offered space for deeper thought. Partnering with A Mensagem de Lisboa, two insightful discussions took place—one focusing on the “Residências Iminente” project and the other exploring the potential of digital arts in fostering participation.

Iminente’s Impact on Lisbon’s Creative Scene

With curatorial guidance from Sílvia Rebelo and the backing of the Câmara Municipal de Lisboa, Iminente continues to redefine how festivals interact with cities. From music lovers to art enthusiasts, this weekend’s takeover was a testament to the festival’s core philosophy: bringing the margins to the center and celebrating the diversity of Lisbon’s cultural fabric.

As the Sagres Marketing Manager, Catarina Ferraz, summed up, “Our partnership with Iminente is all about celebrating creativity, diversity, and urban culture, and this year was no different.”
